Child Car Seats, Booster Seats & Pushchairs

Can I take my child’s car seat abroad? Many parents prefer the re-assurance of taking their child car seats or booster seat with them when they travel, therefore they should know what their airline carrier allows.

Your car rental company will have the facility to book a child car seat and booster seats at the time of booking. However, the car rental company may not have the right size seat available when you arrive, especially if you are travelling with a young baby.

For peace of mind we would always recommend taking your child’s own car seat if possible. You may also be able to use your child’s booster seat on the airplane however it is best to check with your airline whether this is possible.

Generally, airlines do not charge for your infants car seat, booster seat, buggy, or pushchair and they do not form part of your checked luggage allowance. For example, they will allow you some baby equipment as part of your luggage. However for any additional items, there is usually a charge, and these items will go into the aircraft’s hold.

Airlines differ in their allowances and some allow you to carry 2 items free of charge. They should be dropped off at the Bag Drop Centre. Therefore, your child’s pushchair can be taken to the boarding gate or aircraft door.

So then, please check your airline’s allowance for children’s equipment and pre-book if necessary, for it to be placed in the hold.

Any child car seat, booster seat, or pushchair which is put in the airplane hold can be collected from your flight’s luggage carousel in the arrivals hall.

Check out the airlines policy for travelling with a child car seat, booster seat, buggy and pushchair below:

Ryanair – Baby Equipment

You can carry 2 items of baby equipment free of charge per child. 1 pushchair plus one of the following items: car seat or booster seat or travel cot. Additional items will go into the hold for a fee of £15.00.
At the Bag Drop off desk the 2 free items of baby equipment will be tagged for travel. These close 40 minutes before the scheduled flight departure time.
Also pushchairs can be used right up to the aircraft steps. After landing the pushchair will be available at the aircraft steps. (provided local conditions allow this).

EasyJet – Baby Equipment

For every infant or young child you can take up to two of the following items free of charge. Travel cot, pushchair, double pushchairs, buggy, car seat, collapsible or non-collapsible pram, booster seat, baby back carrier.
The items you will need between check-in and boarding can usually be taken to the aircraft door as appropriate. Please check local airport regulations as these can differ.
You can take car seats onto the aircraft if you have arranged this facility.
For example, if you wish to take more than 2 of these items per infant, they can be purchased as hold luggage.

Jet2 – Baby Equipment

Here collapsible pushchairs and buggies or car seats do not form part of the baggage allowance, and may be carried free of charge on a limited release basis as checked luggage.
However, if the combined weight is more than 10kg, excess baggage charges will apply.
Remember there must be an infant or child on the booking.

Thomas Cook Airlines – Baby Equipment

If a child is younger than two years of age on arrival back into the UK and will be travelling on your lap, you may bring three of the following items free of charge:
* 10 kg baggage allowance
* a stroller/pushchair
* a travel cot
* a car seat (checked in to the hold)
In addition, if all four are required, one item would be part of any pre-purchased hold baggage weight allowance on the booking. However, an infant does not have a hand baggage allowance.
If an Infant has been booked in a seat, the 10 kg baggage allowance no longer applies.
Also, a stroller or pushchair and car seat are still available for carriage free of charge.
Similarly, all other items would need to be part of any pre-purchased weight allowance on the same booking. A hand baggage allowance would apply if a seat has been booked.

British Airways – Baby Equipment

Your child will have the same free checked baggage allowance as you.
Infants (under 2) are given one free checked bag, as per the adult weight and size limit for that travel class.
You cannot combine your baggage allowances. Please make sure you know the number of bags per person, plus size and weight limits for checked bags.
You can also take these items for your infant or child, free of charge:
* one fully-collapsible pushchair (stroller) and one car seat
* small, fully collapsible pushchair (with dimensions of 117cm x 38cm x 38cm when pushchair is collapsed), you will be able to take this to the aircraft door at most airports.
If you have booked a seat for your infant or child you can take the car seat on board. Although check car seat dimensions and safety requirements to fit safely into the aircraft seat.

Vueling Airlines – Baby Equipment

This is a good allowance. At the check-in desk, no additional cost check-in a total of 2 extra items (pushchair, cradle or cot).
For example, you can take these items right to the door of the plane!
