All visitors whether local or foreign tourists visiting Gran Canaria and the other Canary Islands will have any Covid-19 related costs covered by regional government of the Canaries. This has been introduced to build confidence for the tourism industry as it aims to recover from the pandemic. These costs will include health expenses or if a person has to prolong their stay on the islands due to quarantine restrictions. This is the latest attempt to bolster the confidence to tourists as they consider Summer vacation.
This move is the first of its kind in Spain and plans to have it operational this week.
The travel policy will be managed by AXA the French insurer and likely to last for one year.
Yaiza Castilla, the regional official in charge of tourism, said with this policy, tourists “will be guaranteed travel assistance coverage by Covid-19, with medical expenses, health repatriation and extended quarantine stay.” This agreement makes it very attractive for tourists choosing a holiday destination.
